Zouki Cafe sits snugly within the Northshore Hospital precinct in St Leonards, making it a practical pit stop for hospital visitors, staff, and anyone in the area craving a straightforward café experience. The vibe here is quietly functional rather than leisurely — a spot where convenience takes priority over ambiance, partly shaped by its hospital setting.

Despite the clinical backdrop, Zouki tries to offer a menu that balances health-conscious options with hearty fare. The choices range from light bites like quinoa beetroot salad and homemade low-fat, low-sugar protein balls, to more filling items such as mini sliders and a souvlaki selection. This mix suggests it caters well to people grabbing a quick lunch or snack between meetings or shifts.

The coffee offering can be a bit unpredictable, which is common in places where the team changes frequently. It’s enough to get you through the day but doesn’t quite compete with cafés offsite that focus solely on their brew. Seating is limited and fairly basic, reflecting its role as a spot to fuel up rather than linger, which makes it best suited for weekdays, especially mid-mornings and lunch hours when hospital activity is at its peak.

For those familiar with hospital cafés, this is a no-frills convenience café that does well by providing a range of options — from a substantial ham, cheese and tomato omelette to healthy salads — all at reasonable prices. If you’re visiting someone or working nearby, you’ll find practical, grab-and-go meals that don’t require a sit-down away from your day’s duties.

Good to know:

  • Ideal for hospital staff or visitors needing a quick, varied meal.
  • Breakfast and lunch are the main focus, with some sweet and healthy snack options.
  • Atmosphere is functional and a little sterile, reflecting its hospital location rather than a relaxed café vibe.
  • Best visited during weekday mornings or early afternoons when it’s less rushed.

I had a massive Ham Cheese and Tomato Omelette (perfect), Pancakes and large Hot Chocolate all for $27,which I think is a very good price for an excellent meal. I only gave 3 stars for atmosphere because well it's a hospital.

The main café just inside the entrance at RNSH has changed hands recently, and is now known as Caterez Café, and they also run the small single-person operation downstairs beside Emergency. Current management are so laid back they didn't even have it listed on Google! I've tried both outlets and discovered that the coffee varies markedly depending on who is on duty. The idea is to get the young guy who usually can be found downstairs mornings during the week. He is very pleasant, very efficient, knows his product range, and was obviously a capable barista, though the Cleanskin roast sometimes leaves a bit to be desired (try and get a day when he's got Full Throttle in the machine). A reasonable selection of freshly packaged sandwiches and wraps (not the cheapest but also not unreasonable in a hospital setting), Chef-cooked dishes, sweets, waters, protein drinks, soft drinks, smoothies (upstairs only) and juices, as well as coffee and tea, so most tastes catered for. Small-sized coffee $4:50. Some tables and chairs so while everything seems to be served as takeaway you can sit and eat at your leisure. Definitely worth a visit if you are at the hospital for any reason.
